postdoctoral position

Associate Specialist (postdoctoral-level position) in  Madden-Julian Oscillation
A position at the postdoctoral level is available in the Earth Research Institute and the Department of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The successful candidate will participate in a research project in the Climate Variations and Changes (CLIVAC) research group with Dr. Charles Jones (http://clivac.eri.ucsb.edu). The main goal of this project is to advance our understanding of the influence of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) on the predictability of extreme precipitation in the contiguous United States. The candidate will be involved in diagnostic analyses and predictability experiments with regional (WRF) and global models (CAM5). Applicants need to have a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, or a closely related field, prior to the date of hire. Previous experience with the WRF model and/or global models (CAM, CCSM) is highly desirable. Candidates need to have strong experience with Linux environment and programming skills (e.g., IDL, Matlab, NCL). The selected candidate will also have strong written and oral communication skills.The position is full time and offers a competitive salary and benefits. The initial appointment is for one year beginning as soon as March 17, 2014; continuation beyond one year will be based on performance and availability of funding. The primary consideration date for this position is February 27, 2014; thereafter open until filled.
