Problems about restart files

In restart files, there are too many files like '${CASE}.pop.rh.*', are there any differences between 'r' and 'rh' files? Which roles do they play in the restart run?

Good question, thanks for asking. The "rh" files are the restart history files as opposed to the "r" files which are general history files. The restart history files are there to store the history average information when the model is imbetween history average writes. Note, that they are only needed for exact restarts for a continue run. You don't need them if you are going to startup the model from scratch or for a hybrid or branch startup type.
