Questions about initial conditions for CAM

Hi,I'm running fully couple CESM with B_1850-2000_CAM5_CN. The initial condition file that used for CAM5 is chem_mam3_2000-01-01_1.9x2.5_L30_c120222.nc.My question is how the file chem_mam3_2000-01-01_1.9x2.5_L30_c120222.nc was generated.I'm interested in 2001-2010 period, so I start from 2000-01-01 and use the first year (2000) as spinup. Is that reasonable to do that? Was the file chem_mam3_2000-01-01_1.9x2.5_L30_c120222.nc the ouput after hundreds of years spinup? Thanks!

Hi Jian, the file chem_mam3_2000-01-01_1.9x2.5_L30_c120222.nc was derived from a 10 year run of a F2000 MAM3 model simulation with chemistry. Using that file should be probably fine for a 1 year spinup run for the atmosphere, but the ocean was prescribed in this simulation. There may be other IC files that someone can point you to, based on a B_1850-2000_CAM5_CN compset.Simone

The atmosphere spins up very quickly (a matter of weeks). It is fine to use chem_mam3_2000-01-01_1.9x2.5_L30_c120222.nc for B_1850-2000_CAM5_CN. Cecile
