Questions about sst data in CAM4

Hello, everyone, I have one question about sst data in CAM4

if I change the sst based on the sst file "sst_HadOIBl_bc_48x96_clim_c050526.nc", there are two variables, one is "sst_cpl", used by the model directly, and one is 'sst_cpl_prediddle', retained data, I want to add some sst difference. Should I just add the sst difference to the variable "sst_cpl" or should I add it to the variable "sst_cpl_prediddle" and recreate the value "sst_cpl"? because I don't have the 'ice_cov' difference and only have sst difference, you know, ice cover is exist when sst is below -1.8 ℃. After recreating the "sst_cpl", I think I should change the 'ice_cov' variable too, but I want to know how to do it, your answer is appreciate.

The source of this dataset is documented here:

2008 Hurrell, J. J., J. J. Hack, D. Shea, J. M. Caron, and J.
Rosinski, A new sea surface temperature and sea ice boundary dataset
for the NCAR Community Atmospheric Model, Journal of Climate, 21, pp.
5145-5153.

The original data is on a 1-deg grid, so the first processing
step is to regrid to the CAM grid of interest. This is contained
in the SST_cpl_prediddle and the ice_cov_prediddle variables.

Next the time series of monthly averaged data is treated by the method used for
AMIP II simulations. This method is described in detail here:

The result of applying this method is found in the SST_cpl and
ice_cov variables. This is the data used by the model.

Finally the climatology is computed using the data for 1981-2000.

The paper of Hurrell et al. contains a discussion of the
consistency checks that have been applied to the SST and sea ice
fields.
