Recommendations for generating ICs

Hi,
We're looking at running a B compset in "NWP" mode for cases in the summers of 2006 and 2007. Currently, my best idea for creating the CLM restart files is to run "offline" with say the MERRA forcing DATM (/glade/p/cesm/lmwg/atm_forcing.datm7.merra.033x066d.c111007) to our dates of interest.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a run to start from (and how long to run)?
Of course, any other approaches to test are more than welcome too.
