restart files

Dear all,    I think restart only needs restart files and rpointer.*,but they also need atmosphere output files from the last moment，eg test10.cam.rh0.0001-01-03-00000.nc.What is the use of them?And what is the test.cam.rs.* and test.pop.ro.* in restart run? Thank you.

.rh# files are restart history - since history data is time averaged values if you stop at a time different than the history frequency you need to save the partial sums of the history variables.
