Restart files

Hi,

I have a question about restart files. When we take a restart file, say something like "b30.031.ccsm.r.0881-01-01-00000.040613-040012.tar", we have two history files of cam and clm in it, namely
b30.031.cam2.h0.0880-12.nc
b30.031.clm2.h0.0880-12.nc

My question is how exactly are these files used? Are they used in initialization and if yes which type of initialization? Thanks!

These are history output files that should not be needed to initialize a run, but for some reason they need to be in the atm run directory for a hybrid run
