Run CLM5 with downscaled 9km WRF forcing

Hi there,

I'm trying to create a customiazed regional simulation in California annual grasslands using 9km forcing data from WRF. I never did this before, so my questions might be very broad, and I'm trying to get some suggestions to start with. So basically my quesitons are:

1) WRF outputs are in curvilinear grids (Lambert Conformal projection). Do I need to reproject all the WRF outputs into rectangular lon/lat grid in order to run CLM? or CLM can run with curvilinear grid? if so, any tips for how to do this?

2) are these all the tools I need in order to create my domian and surface files corresponds to WRF grid? see link here: 1.3.4. Creating input for surface dataset generation — ctsm CTSM master documentation

3) ideally I only want to run simulations in California annual grasslands, so would like to use vegation mask for the land, will that add some additional steps into creating new domian and surface file? I suppose that there won't be ocean in my simmulations...

Sorry that if my questions are too vague, any suggestions are welcome! and please let me know if you need further informaiton.

Thank you!

Xiulin
