I am planning to first run CAM with diagnostic radiation and then use the simulated variables to force CLM. I am doing this because the diagnostic radiation values do not interact with the other components of CESM. Moreover, by doing this, I can restrict other feedbacks and only look at the impact of changing the radiation on the surface climate.
Currently, I can run CLM forced by the diffuse shortwave, direct shortwave, lowest atm level air temperature and specific humidity, surface pressure, and precipitation simulated by CAM. However, as soon as I add wind (I am replacing the values in the default forcing files), the run fails (logs are attached).
Another confusion is that on this page: http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.0/clm/models/lnd/clm/doc/UsersGuide/x9798.html WIND is a forcing variable. However, CAM has both UBOT (zonal wind for the lowest atm layer) and VBOT (meridional wind for the lowest atm layer). I am unsure which of these variables should be replacing WIND in the CLM forcing files. Or is it a combination of the two (sqrt(ubot*ubot+vbot*vbot))?
