Running slab ocean in cam

Hi there,

I am currently trying to get slab ocean to run in cam but am having a lot of difficulty with the defineqflux step in making the flux initialization file. When I type in:

defineqflux -f firstfile_fromcontrolrun -l lastfile_fromcontrolrun -s sst.nc -v

I get an error when it tries to read in data from the control run as the variable FSNSOI cannot be found.... Has anyone else had this problem? Or has anyone else managed to get slab ocean running renently or been able to create this initialization file? I am running it on linux.

Thank, Gina.

Gina,

It won't do you much good, but I have used the SOM option in the past. I am pretty sure that my control run had FSNSOI written to the history file though. Perhaps you can rerun part of your control run to get it. Or you could try to reconstruct it and add it to your history files if you have the net shortwave flux at the surface (combined with land/ice masks).

Good luck!

When I execute the defineqflux command I get the following:
./defineqflux -f b42_land_01.cam2.h0.0009-01.nc -l b42_land_01.cam2.h0.0009-12.nc -s sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_clim_c020411.nc -v

I saw in a past response someone else got this same error but no one responded. Does anyone know why this might happen? I ran a CAM control run using the data ocean for 10 years and I used the first month of the 9th year as my first file and the last month of the 9th year as my last file.

I already went through the definemld command where I added the annual mixed layer depth field to my sst file. Both the control run files and the sst file are on the same 64x128 grid.

Any insight would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Lisa
