running the model with different vertical resolution

Hi,
I am trying to run CAM3 with some vertcal resolutions other than the default one(26 levels). As the input dataset available with the model is of 26levels, should I have to interpolate these dataset to make the desire vertical resolution. Secondly only feeding of the input dataset with the desire vertical resolution will work or should I have to modify anywhere in the model code. The other problem I am facing is, the vertical cordinate used in CAM3 is a hybrid cordinate(lower levels are sigma levels and upper levels are pressure levels) so how should I interpolte it.

Any suggestions in these regards will be highly useful to me.
Thanking in advance
Saroj
