Simulations with and without solar proton events.

We are running WACCM (CESM1_0_3) to study solar proton events (SPEs).

It appears that SPE's are included in the default compsets for WACCM (e.g., FW, and FSDW).
In order to "turn off" SPE's do we simply change the spe_data_file namelist variable to include a blank space as opposed to a filename?

spe_data_file=' '

Are there other steps necessary for running the model with and without SPE events?

Yes, a blank space between two single quotes should work.
