SST input for CAM

Dear all,

After runing CAM3.0 with available input data (including SST) successfuly,
I tried to renew SST file of sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_1949_2001_c020411.nc as follow:
1) Use ncdump to extract data in sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_1949_2001_c020411.nc to TEXT file
2) Create a new cdl_file file with the same content of sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_1949_2001_c020411.nc
3) Use ncgen to make a new SST file by:
ncgen -b -o outputfile.nc cdl_file

After that I run CAM with new SST data file above. Unfortunately, I program was stopped with error as:
Successfully initialized the land model
begin initial run at:
nstep= 0 year= 1980 month= 1 day=
1 seconds= 0

************************************************************

Tan: Month number 1 ncdate -2147483647
BNDDYI: Bad month index= -36
ENDRUN: called without a message string

Could you please help me to understand what I was wrong, and how I can correct it.

Thank you in advice.
Tan

Hi all,

I have solved myself with SST update for CAM using ncgen. But I don't know where I can get ice_cov data for CAM. Could you please help me.
Thanks.

Hi Tan,

What SST data did you use instead of the default SST data that came with CAM? And how did you solve your problem (was it a SOM or prescribed ocean run?)?

If its not appropriate to use ice_cov data from the default cam data and there is no ice data with your new sst dataset is it not possible to simulate ice cover from an SOM run (with boundary conditions that reflect the simulated conditions you want your ice data to represent). Though I am not sure when your new SST data is for (what years/time period).
