Hello,
I am setting up a CESM2.1 fully coupled simulation in which I have to initialize POP and CICE from one case and the land, atmosphere and runoff from another case. Based on documentation in env_run.xml, the RUN_TYPE has to be set to "startup" to mix i.c.'s from different CESM cases. For a "startup" RUN_TYPE, most components are initialized by specifying a restart file in the namelist, but as best I can tell, initializing POP is done differently, using the startup/spunup initialization option. I found some older CESM1.2 documentation that describes how do this here:
The CESM1.2 POP2 FAQ
However, it appears that when using this method, POP only initializes using T and S from the restart file. I would like to initialize other variables, for example, ideal age using the spun up state. I suspect this might be possible, but I could not find any guidance. If someone knows how to do this, please let me know.
Thanks.
Bob
