Hi Vaughan,

I believe the SP-CAM configuration is included with the standard CESM code-base. Simply download the latest version of CESM following the instructions here:

Then create a new case using one of the "FSPCAM" compsets. You can find a list of all of those compsets along with their basic descriptions by going here:

and then searching for "SPCAM". If you have any questions about creating a new case, or about running CESM/SP-CAM in general, then I would recommend starting here:

Of course feel free to also post on the respective DiscussCESM forum if you have any other questions or issues.

Hope that helps, and have a great day!

Jesse

Thanks for the quick reply.

This is good news.

I wonder if it is possible to run the SP-CAM in a single column mode ?

cheers

Hi Vaughan

It might technically be possible, but if you are running SP-CAM in single column mode then I believe all you are actually doing is running the Cloud-Resolving Model (CRM), which in this case would be SAM. SAM is not an NCAR model, but you can find more info about it (including how to acquire the source code) here:

So, if you want to do a simulation over a small area with the CRM, then I would recommend just running SAM directly, as opposed to using SP-CAM (which is designed for global simulations).

Hope that helps!

Jesse
