I am trying to run ccsm at a new resolution - 1x1.25 atmosphere (FV) and gx1v3 ocean. I've edited check_res, cam.template, clm.template and have cami and aerosol input files in place. Turns out I need to create cpl mapping files (in inputdata/cpl/cpl6, to be listed in cpl.template). How do I accomplish that?

art,
I believe that several people answered this question directly, but for the general
user, I am going to reply so they can benefit at well:

Mapping files are generated using a special software package called SCRIP
http://www.acl.lanl.gov/climate/software/SCRIP/SCRIPmain.html
created and supported at LANL.

NCAR maintains a directory of the mapping files already generated by our staff
at /fs/cgd/csm/maps/mapping

Only those files for configurations that have been climate validated are
releasable to the general public. These are available on the Earth System
Grid http://www.earthsystemgrid.org

If a desired mapping file does not exist in our repository, the user is responsible for using SCRIP and generating the files. I have been told that using SCRIP
correctly is as much an art as a science.

that's not good. I stole that link from the NCL pages where we have it all over.
