Surface Dataset Elevation Standard Deviation Patterns

I have created a regional subset of Australia and looking at the standard deviation of the elevation within the created .nc file I see strange line patterns.Please see the attached file.Could this be the result of a wrongly used interpolation method when calling the esmf tools?I have checked the 0.125x0.125 degree global surface dataset on the official svn repository and see the same patterns there.
