The CESM2.1.3 model simulation restart files are not saved.

Hi all,

I am using the F2000Climo compset. I would like to run simulations for 20 years, thus I set nmonths to 240 in the env_run.xml file. The model simulation are completed 5 years given a walltime. The output is saved in the run directory as cam.h0, cice.h, mosart.h0, clm2.h0, and cam.i files. So, I would like to continue running the current simulation. The cam.r, cam.rs, and cam.rh0 files are required for the continue run. Here, I would like to know; Why aren't the cam.r, cam.rs, and cam.rh0 restart files saved? Furthermore, I verified that the restart file are not stored in the archive directory.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello!

A couple of questions for you:
1. Are there any errors in the run/cesm.log.* or run/atm.log.* files? It's possible you're running out of memory when it goes to write the restart files and I'm hoping this would be indicated in the logs.
2. What grid are you using?
3. What compiler are you using?

Thanks!

Dear Courtney,

I would like to let you know that I utilized the CESM2.1.3 model version.
Answers to your questions are provided below;
There are no errors in the run/cesm.log or the run/atm.log. The model simulation ran successfully.
I am using the grid resolution f09_f09_mg17(0.9 x1.25) with F2000climo compset.
I am using the intel compiler.

Thanks,
PS

Hi PS,

Couple of things to try:

1. If possible, try updating to the latest version of CESM (CESM2.2.0)
2. Run a shorter run to see if the restart files are generated for that.

In the meantime, I'll try running a couple tests on my end (but they won't be 20-years in length!) to see if I can reproduce your error. Let me know if either of those suggestions helps/makes things worse!
