The error during restart the BHIST

When I restart the BHIST of CESM2, there are some errors. It happens a lot. And I can't understand why the errors happen and how to modify the model to restart.

I change the "start_type=startup" to "start_type=continue" to restart the BHIST following the manual. Then the errors appear:

First, there is no "start_type" in xml files. I assume you are saying "RUN_TYPE". Second, there are three types of "RUN_TYPE", including "startup","hybrid" and "branch".
If you are new to CESM, it is better to follow the tutorial provided by NCAR which you can easily find online instead of running the model with no clue.

Hi there, those are some crazy looking errors! It looks to me like you have some non-UTF standard or non-english characters in your rpointer files, and the model doesn't like them. In your experiment run directory, look at your rpointer.rof file. Make sure that the only characters after the restart filename stored inside the rpointer file are UTF-8 characters. You may need to google help for changing the character encoding (I can't help with that).
