the global distribution of radius of accumulation mode

Hi there,

Does anyone know the meaning of "radsurf" in atm/cam/src/physics/cam/modal_aer_opt.F90? In my thought, the radsurf(modes, column, level) can be explained as the effective radius of one mode in CAM5-MAM3 or MAM7. In the geographical distribution figure(near surface layer), the large size of aerosol is almost distributed in ocean area. I don’t think that makes sense. There also exists dust, sulfate, SOA, POA and black carbon in MAM3. Or maybe the size of sea salt is much larger than other aerosols?

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Henry
