the meaning of configuration bgc_spinup

Hi all,I am using I1850CRUCLM45BGC to conduct my research. Since there is only a initial file with 241 years running: clmi.I1850CRUCLM45BGC.0241-01-01.0.9x1.25_g1v6_simyr1850_c130531.nc, I am generating my initial file by configuring  ./xmlchange CLM_BLDNML_OPTS="-bgc_spinup on" -append. However, I find it did not have any speed up in running one year. Based on my understanding, opening spinup should can speed-up the land model to approach equilibrium otherwise why I need to open this configuration? Is anyone able to present some explainations on how the bgc_spinup configuration make sense? Thanks,
