Dear all
We are currently looking at the ocean transport diagnostics, i.e. ocean heat transport, and the great feature of CESM is that is already gives the transport variables as an output variable, it even distinguishes between the eulerian transport and eddy transport. If one would like to reproduce these transport variables (e.g. the heat transport N_HEAT) from the basic fields (potential temperature THETAO and velocity in case of heat transport), how are they computed? For example, since the heat transport through a section ist the integral of temperature x velocity, there is the issue that temperature and velocity are gridded differently. Thus, is there a documentation how the ocean models computes the sort-of post-processed variables such as N_HEAT and MOC and which exact variables the use?
Help would be much appreciated, kind regards from Switzerland, Markus
