U10m wind direction

Hi all,
i want to plot the U10m wind direction?U10 CAM model output is the 10m wind speed.
Since U10 is a scalar quantity,it is not possible to plot the directions.
Kindly help me.

U10 is the 10-meter wind. It is not the zonal wind component at 10m. It is the total wind component.
U10 = sqrt( sqr(U at 10m) + sqr(V at 10m) )

UBOT and VBOT are the wind on the first model level (which is higher than 10m). Maybe you could use these if you need the directions ?

Hi,@hannay! I can't find the UBOT and VBOT in CAM output.(My CESM version is 2.1.3) I find "U U10 UM_CLUBB UP2_CLUBB UPWP_CLUBB UTEND_CLUBB UU V VD01 VM_CLUBB VP2_CLUBB VPWP_CLUBB VQ VT VTEND_CLUBB VU VV" field in my cam.h0 file.
