User made input data

I'm trying to figure out how to use my own precipitation data with cesm. 

The user guide seems to be a bit scarce on how to create input data for use with cesm. 
Are there any more detailed instructions I can find which detail data formatting requirements and the steps to get cesm to use the data?

I am not sure that I understand your question. CAM is computing diagnostics precipitation.
