Vegetation problem with CTSM

We have run a case (2000_DATM%NLDAS2_CLM50%NWP-BGC-CROP_SICE_SOCN_MOSART_SGLC_SWAV_SIAC_SESP --res nldas2_rnldas2_mnldas2) in CTSM. We spin up the model for 250 years. While checking GPP results we found that there is no vegetation in Southwest part of the USA all year round, not even in summer but the other regions get vegetation in summer. I was wondering if it is a model glitch or a long spinup (like 800 years) can fix the issue?

What did you use for initial conditions?

You might need to spinup the model making sure you use the reseed_dead_plants option so that they start growing in those areas. Once, the plants die in a simulation they stay dead. So yes you might need to do a longer spinup starting with accelerated decomposition mode to jump start everything. The Southwest is a desert so you don't expect a lot to happen there, but you at least expect vegetation that is there to be alive.

We have added reseed_dead_plants but it did not make any change. Most of the southwest shows zero vegetation.
