Where to find the SC-WACCM output used in Neely et al. (2014)?

Hi all,

I've been trying to find the output of historical simulations run on SC-WACCM used in Neely et al. (2014).
I've searched it from GLADE file spaces and ESG, but couldn't find it.... Can I get some help for finding those data?

I guess folders named b40.1955-2005.2deg.wcm.XXX have data from historical simulations?

Neely et al. (2014) noted that they ran two ensembles (one specified with monthly mean ozone and another one with daily mean ozone) of six members,
I was wondering which set of ensemble is saved in the acom-storage?
Also, I was wondering why there are 7 runs (002,003,004,005,006,007 and 013) not 6?

I have located additional output on NCAR's HPSS system, which I am now copying to glade. Here is some information I have from a 2015 email from Neely:

So all the NOAA WACCM simulations are now on yellowstone. I have emailed you all as I hope they will be utilized by the community now that they are out from behind the iron curtain of security. Please use them as much as you can and follow the data policy below. It is meant to be very similar in spirit to NCAR’s policy (Acknowledging NCAR/CISL | Computational Information Systems Laboratory) so that NOAA can measure the impact that their resources have on science output.

Notes:
1) Some of the directory structures are slightly different to those ran on yellowstone due to NOAA’s CESM setup.
2) All of the b40 atm files are on my scratch disk under /glade/scratch/rneely/b40/ (This will only be up there until it gets purged automatically as per NCAR policy)

4) So the SC naming system is probably going to annoy a lot of people. It was done by me so I could keep track of what runs used which initial conditions and which ozone file easily but then we did a lot more runs and things got our of hand. Attached is a list of each of the SC runs and what file ozone file and which IC file they used.

Usage Policy that applies to all of the runs list above:
1) If you use any of these runs for your science (or tell anyone else about them and they use the runs) please let me know so I can keep track of the output that has resulted for NOAA’s documentation.
2) The resources that went into the creation and curation of this data need to be cited correctly.

The acknowledgement for NOAA, NCAR and my time spent not these runs should be something like: "The authors acknowledge the NOAA Research and Development High Performance Computing Program for providing computing and storage resources that significantly contributed to the research results reported within this paper ( http://rdhpcs.noaa.gov ). We also thank Henry LeRoy Miller for his assistance with NOAA’s high performance computing facilities. Computing resources were also provided by the Climate Simulation Laboratory at NCAR’s Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL), sponsored by the National Science Foundation and other agencies. Ryan R. Neely III is currently supported by the National Center for Atmospheric Research's Advanced Study Program and as a postdoctoral research associate at NOAA/ESRL.”

Actually, I have just realized that the b40.1955-2005.2deg.wcm.XXX runs are not SC-WACCM runs, but are additional ensemble members for the CMIP5 CESM1(WACCM) historical simulations. I will move these out of the scwaccm directory.

Since I was still wondering whether GBSCWACCM1955_2005XXX runs have used 1) monthly-mean or 2) daily-mean ozone profile,
I have checked its log file and I have found:
ozone is prescribed in :b40.1955-2005.2deg.wcm.567.cam2.h3.1955-2005O32lons.nc
trcdata_init: data type: SERIAL file: b40.1955-2005.2deg.wcm.567.cam2.h3.1955-2005O32lons.nc


Does it mean that it has been prescribed with daily mean ozone profile?
(or do you still have the "Attached is a list of each of the SC runs and what file ozone file and which IC file they used." that Ryan mentioned in his email?)

If I had to guess, I would say that the h3 in the file name indicates that the ozone comes from daily, rather than monthly (h0) output. Otherwise, I have not found any clues in Neely et al. (2014) as to which runs are members of the daily ozone ensemble, and which are members of the monthly ozone ensemble.

The full set of output is on the NCAR HPSS under /CCSM/csm. I am copying it to glade, but it will take several weeks. I started a process of publishing this to the Earth System Grid in 2018, but it was never completed. I am following through on that now.

We are working on getting all of the output on the Earth System Grid now. I did get the reply below from Neely:

I did do more runs at NOAA after the publication. I think I did it as part of the review as they wanted to see the impact of more members. It did not change the story.

I cannot remember which were which and this swerve my notes run out. I also do not have access to all the code but from a script that I made one plot I think it was
