Zonal Moisture Transport

Hi everyone,
I was analyzing my CESM1.2 runs when I noticed the default monthly history files save VQ (meridional water transport) but not UQ (zonal water transport). I know I could have activated the UQ field on the namelist, but I didn't notice it at the time and now everything is run and I don't have cluster access anymore. Does anyone know if it's possible to calculate UQ from some other variables that come in the default CAM4 history?
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel

Hi Gabriel,

You should be able to get a reasonable estimate of 'UQ' by simply multiplying the standard output variables 'U' and 'Q' together.

However, I should note that this won't be exactly the same as outputting 'UQ', simply because the average of X*Y isn't the same as the average of X * average of Y. If this becomes an issue then you can always try calculating 'VQ' in the same way so that it is a more apples-to-apples comparison.

Hope that helps, and have a great day!

Jesse
