Question about how to convert the potential temperature to temperature in POP2

Hi all:

I ran experiments in POP2, and i found there is a variable named "Potential Temperature", i was wondering is there any variables about ocean temperature not potential temperature, or how to covert Potential Temperature" to temperature?

Thanks in advance~

I will move this to the POP forum. However, this was answered in a previous post.

Hi dbailey
Thanks for your reply, I have read this post, but the "potmp" function in NCL is used to calculate potential temperature not the insitu temperature.

I found a package in python named "seawater" which can convert potential temperature to temperature, but i was wondering whether the description of the variables in POP that are consist with the variables required in the "seawater". And, is there any optional settings can get temperature from POP directly?

I got another question, there is also only potential temperature at sea surface. It may be difficult to convert potential temperature to temperature at surface in atmospheric function, missing variables about surface pressure from POP output. And i think the way used in the subsurface ocean is not suitable for the surface potential temperature. So, how to convert surface potential temperature to temperature?

The reference pressure is the key here. I will allow others from the POP community to chime in here. You have the dz of the levels in POP in the history. The sum of dz to a particular level is the depth of that level.
