Anyone tried a CAM-CLM only configuration?

I am interested in running CESM in a configuration in which CAM and CLM are the only dynamic components. Any ocean grid points would be treated as lakes. (Yes, I know this is a highly inexact approximation. Trust me.) Put one way, landmask=1 everywhere. Has anyone tried something like this. One idea I have would be to start from an F configuration, landmask everything, and run with an irrelevant data ocean/sea ice.

Thanks,

Nick

I'll add that I've heard that the CLM team does simulations like this with a data atmosphere rather than CAM. Is it possible to do a similar setup with CAM? If it's technically feasible but difficult, I'll gladly work out the difficulties. Thanks, Nick

Your idea is plausible to me purely from a software perspective, but I have not heard of anyone actually doing this. It's common for CAM developers to run aquaplanet (where CAM uses an internal data ocean with no land), but I don't know of any case where CLM is the only surface component.
