Branch/hybrid run and porting

If I plan on running a branch/hybrid case, would I need to port my machine out-of-the-box if the machine I'm using is userdefined? Thank you.

The build scripts need to know certain things that are different for each system, such as where netCDF is installed and how to submit parallel jobs. So you will have to do some porting work in order for the model to build; the "userdefined" machines are just the starting points for this process.
