Calculating arctic sea ice extent

Hi AllI want to calculate the arctic sea ice extent in terms of million sq km. But i have the units in fractions. I obtain this data from cam4 h0 files. The fractional units are given grid wise. Do i have to calculate the area of each grid to get the arctic sea ice extent in million sq km? Are the grids of equal size in the model (so that i dont have to calculate it for every grid)? Please commentThank you very much
