CAM co2 increase

I would like to do CAM experiments including increasing atmospheric CO2. If I have surface emissions of CO2 how can I get CAM to calculate the atmospheric increase? So far I have only used fixed CO2 concentration (using co2_vmr) is there an option in the namelist I have to turn on to make CAM read the surface emissions an to calculate the atmospheric increase?

I've tried the co2_flag = .true. but it seems like this only works for ccsm-mode while I am running CAM with a slab ocean model.

Thanks.
