Describe every step you took leading up to the problem:
Using release-cesm2.1.5:

./create_newcase --case coupled_test --res ne0CONUSne30x8_ne0CONUSne30x8_mt12 --compset F2000climo --project P93300041 --run-unsupported
cd coupled_test
./case.setup
./preview_namelist

Gives:

ERROR: Command /glade/work/oleson/release-cesm2.1.5/components/cam/bld/build-namelist -ntasks 4480 -csmdata /glade/campaign/cesm/cesmdata/inputdata -infile /glade/work/oleson/release-cesm2.1.5/cime/scripts/coupled_test/Buildconf/camconf/namelist -ignore_ic_year -use_case 2000_cam6 -inputdata /glade/work/oleson/release-cesm2.1.5/cime/scripts/coupled_test/Buildconf/cam.input_data_list -namelist " &atmexp /" failed rc=255
out=CAM build-namelist - ERROR: No default value found for ncdata

I also see this while creating the case:

Warning: missing non-idmap LND2ROF_FMAPNAME for lnd_grid, ne0np4CONUS.ne30x8 and rof_grid r05

Is there a configuration of this res and compset that can be run with release-cesm2.1.5? Or does it require a special setup that is available somewhere? Thanks.

Ok, it looks like we can run this in release-cesm2.2.2.
