cam5 bulk aerosol

 Hi all~The CESM version I employ at present is CESM1.2.0，If I want to use the GEOS5 nudging, CMA5.1 physics , data ocean and prognostic  bulk aerosol, could you give me some suggestions?  Is it possible to use prognostic bulk aerosol with cam5.1? Thank you!

Hi Joy,it is not straight forward to use the bulk aerosol model with CAM5 physics, since the MAM (model aerosol model) interacts with clouds and is inbetted in the physics. I am not sure if anybody has tried that before, Simone

Actually, using trop_bam with CAM5 will probably work out of the box, though it is not scientifically supported. Both bulk and modal aerosols are compatible with the CAM5 microphysics.

Hi, santosCloud you give me some hints how to make the bulk aerosols compatible with CAM5 microphysics? I have tried to add bulk aerosols tracers into cam5 MAM3, but it doesn't work very well. Thanks!                    Joy

If you just modify CAM_CONFIG_OPTS to specify "-chem trop_bam", I think that it should turn off MAM3 and add bulk aerosols. The MG physics will still be used. You shouldn't try using bulk and MAM3 at the same time (the model can't do this anyway).
