CAM6 aerosol emission in a specific year

Hi there,

I am running a F2000clim-like experiment but want to cycle over a specific year (for instance, 2019). To this end, I set the ext_frc_cycle_yr and ext_frc_type to 'CYCLICAL', and changed the aerosol emission files to those in SSP experiments as below. However, the emission data in most of these files jumped directly from 201512 to 202001. The experiment failed with error messages similar to
open_trc_datafile: cycle year not found /glade/p/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/atm/cam/chem/emis/CMIP6_emissions_1750_2015/emissions-cmip6_SO2_contvolcano_vertical_850-5000_0.9x1.25_c20170724.nc


Because I want to cycle over a single year, I cannot set ext_frc_cycle_yr and ext_frc_type to 'INTERP_MISSING_MONTHS', which interpolate between years and preserve the seasonal cycle. I am wondering if there is any tools that I can use to interpolate the emission data so that I can use the interpolated data as the inputs for this experiment?

The answer is that emissions are only provided for the 'future' (post 2015) every 5 years since we don't have 'actual' 2019 emissions (they are still based on projections). So you would have to make a 2019 annual cycle by manually interpolating between 2015 and 2020.

Note that the emissions are just projections, so they will not reflect any actual events in 2019 (like fires, etc). It will be a few years before these are available.
