Can CESM2.1.5 be built on MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon (M1)?

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if CESM supports building on a MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon (M1 chips)? Today, I attempted to build CESM on my MBP and run the WACCM-X model. However, I encountered some build issues during the process.

Specifically, I manually built ESMF 8.6.0 and installed NetCDF using Homebrew. I was able to successfully create cases using --machine homebrew. However, during the case.build step, I encountered the following error:

Fatal Error: Mismatch in components of derived type '__vtype_esmf_infodescribemod_Esmf_infodescribe' from 'esmf_infodescribemod' at (1): expecting 'esmf_infodescribedestroy', but got 'esmf_infodescribegetcurrentinfo'

Could this issue be caused by using ESMF-8.6.0?

I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how to resolve this issue. Thank you!

It could be - as far as I know we have not tested cesm2.1.5 with esmf 8.6.0, try 8.4.2 or 8.5.0.
WACCM-X is a highly expensive configuration of cesm. It is not likely to run on a macbook in any case.
