canopy energy conservation equation in CLM5.0

Hello,

I read the CLM5.0 technical document and was confused by the canopy energy conservation equation used for calculating sensible heat and latent heat fluxes.


It says Sv is the solar radiation absorbed by the vegetation. However, a part of the solar radiation absorbed by the vegetation is used for photosynthesis, not for heating. Theoretically, Sv is supposed to be multiplied by [1 - FPAR(Fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation) ], right?

The chemical energy that is stored during photosynthesis and released by respiration is usually ignored (or rather lumped in with the solar absorbed for the energy equation) in climate models as it usually amounts to less than 1% of absorbed insolation (see: Sellers PJ. 1992. Biophysical models of land surface processes. In Climate System Modelling, Trenberth KE (ed.). Cambridge University Press).
