Changing land-sea distribution in CESM1.0.4 (ocean‑to‑land conversion)

Good morning, afternoon, or evening everyone,

I am using CESM1.0.4 to modify the land‑sea distribution – specifically, turning some ocean grid cells into land (i.e., changing coastlines).
I would greatly appreciate any guidance on:
1. How to regenerate the full set of required files (topography, grid, coupler mapping files, etc.) for such a change?
2. Which files are absolutely necessary to modify?
3. Any practical tips or common pitfalls to avoid?

Thank you very much for your time and help!

I'm afraid I can't help with CESM1.0.4. Maybe someone else in this forum can. But if you have the flexibility to use a different model version, I would suggest moving to a more recent version (cesm2_3_beta16 or later) where you can use the VisualCaseGen tool to help you do this. Thank you for your suggestion. I will look into moving to a more recent version and consider using VisualCaseGen. I appreciate the information.

visualCaseGen comes with quite a few guardrails for this exact set of questions! Even if you don't use it, I'd recommend taking a look. (CESM1.0.4 is no longer supported: Support Policy | Community Earth System Model)!
Thank you for pointing this out. It is good to know that visualCaseGen has guardrails for these questions, and I understand that CESM1.0.4 is no longer supported. I appreciate your help.
