Hi everyone,
I am relatively new when it comes to designing and running climate models, so I had a question or two on how CESM2 is coupled. I have tried to read a few papers and the user manuals but they were not very much help.
I understand that all of the major components (CAM,CLM,etc) send information to the coupler (CCSM) which then sends that information to the other major components. I also understand that within the components of CESM2, that there are other specialized models. For example, within CLM5 there is the MEGAN model which models BVOC emissions. So, is MEGAN hard-coded within CLM5, or is it coupled to CLM5 which is then coupled to the rest of CESM2? If it is coupled to CLM5, is it done using the same CCSM coupler? Can MEGAN be decoupled to run a simulation with prescribed BVOC emissions while leaving the rest of CLM5 untouched?
Thank you for your help! Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
