difference between the default land surface datasets used by FHIST and F2000climo

Hello all,

I was running CESM2.1.0 with two component sets FHIST and F2000climo, respectively. I noticed that those two compsets used different land surface datasets:

FHIST - surfdata_0.9x1.25_16pfts_Irrig_CMIP6_simyr1850_c170824.nc
F2000climo - surfdata_0.9x1.25_16pfts_Irrig_CMIP6_simyr2000_c170824.nc

Let's call them "simyr1850" and "simyr2000". It turned out they assigned different PFT fractions to each grid. I also checked the global attributes of those two datasets and found that the only difference was "Vegetation_type_raw_data_filename". For FHIST, it is mksrf_landuse_histclm50_LUH2_1850.c170629.nc. For F2000climo, it is mksrf_landuse_histclm50_LUH2_2000.c170629.nc.

I wonder how does this "Vegetation_type_raw_data_filename" contribute to the difference between the two land surface datasets and what PFT status (current, history, or climatological maybe?) do "simyr1850" and "simyr2000" represent respectively?

Thank you!

Andrew

The simyr1850 is for year 1850 and the simyr2000 is for year 2000.
The FHIST simulation has transient landcover so there should also be a file such as, e.g.,

flanduse_timeseries = '/glade/p/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_map/landuse.timeseries_0.9x1.25_hist_16pfts_Irrig_CMIP6_simyr1850-2015_c170824.nc'

which has vegetation information for 1850-2015. So, e.g., for year 2000, both simulations would be using data from the same Vegetation_type_raw_data_filename

Thank you for your answer. I have a similar question.
1. Can I understand that F2000 simulates the situation of 2000, and FHIST is the dynamic situation of 1850-2000?
2. Fist - surfdata_0.9x1.25_16pfts_Irrig_CMIP6_simyr1850_c170824.nc
F2000climo-surfdata_0.9x1.25_16pfts_Irrig_CMIP6_simyr2000_c170824.nc
Does it represent the surface in 2000 and 1850? , looking forward to your answer, thank you!

1. Right. The FHIST is setup out of the box to start in 1979, but you can probably modify that to run a full historical (1850-2014)
2. Yes.
