Difference between two variables in the river input file

Hi,

I'm very confused that the river input file 'riv_nut.gnews_gnm.gx1v7_nn_open_ocean_nnsm_e1000r300_marginal_sea.20170425.nc' has variables "dic_riv_flux" and "alk_riv_flux" with the same long_name "River flux of ALK". Are they the same? If it's not, what's the difference?

@klindsay are you familiar with this file (I am not)? If so, does this thread belong under ocean and/or bgc? If not, whom would you ask?
