Exploring CESM Simulations & Educational Resources on Climate Change

Hi all,

I'm currently diving deeper into CESM, and I have to say—it's such an incredible tool for understanding the complex interactions across Earth's systems. I've been experimenting with some coupled simulations and trying to make sense of the longer-term climate projections, especially focusing on ocean-atmosphere interactions.

As I work through these models, it’s made me reflect on how important it is to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding. Climate modeling is so vital in illustrating the broader picture of climate change, yet there's still a major need for accessible resources that can help explain these concepts, especially to younger audiences or those new to the topic.

With that in mind, I’ve also been looking into educational tools that can help communicate the impacts of climate change more clearly. I came across a couple of great resources from Twinkl that might be useful for teachers, students, or anyone trying to introduce climate change in a more approachable way:

If you're using CESM in an educational setting or outreach context, pairing it with these kinds of materials could be a great way to make the science more relatable.

Curious to hear if anyone else here has tried combining modeling work with educational or outreach tools? Would love to exchange ideas!

Thanks for your interest, Farida. I agree that CESM could be better utalized in educational settings and your post here is timely.

Some activity on this front is under way with the new CESM Community of Practice group. They're working to stand-up a page on the CESM website, and will have an email list, cesm-faculty@ucar.edu, You can also find out more about this group in the upcoming CESM newsletter.
