How to add grids with new resolutions to CESM model?

I know this is explained in the page 77-79 of the user guide for cesm 1.2BUT I still cannot figure it out.I am only running CLM model. In order to run CLM on a different resolution, I created the mygrid.xml under clm4_5_09/scripts/utils/Case.template/ with the following contents for create_newcase



 Then I ran command ./create_newcase -case test3 -res AB_CD -compset I_2000_CNit said no match for grid AB_CD.I am very new to CLM model and I must get it ridiculous wrong.Please teach me about how to add this new grid AB_CD to CLM. PS: I understand that I need to produce mapping files for this new grid, but our cluster is lack of esmf library at this moment and thus I just want to make this create_newcase work for my new resolution at this moment.thank you!

I had the same problem.
For me the information given in this post helped:
