My case and the reference case are using different grids

Hello,

My current CESM version is release-cesm2.1.5-0-g7a6c5b0.

I created a case with f19_g17 grid (2deg grid), which is an economic option since I need to run the model for very long time.

Now I want to run the model with reference case 'b.e21.BHIST.f09_g17.CMIP6-historical.010_v2', which is in f09_g17 grid (1deg grid).

My case and the reference case are using different grids, so the model raises errors (see attachments). Is there any configuration in CESM that allows interpolation of grids from reference cases to the case I run?

Below are edits by ./xmlchange:
<entry id="RUN_TYPE" value="hybrid">
<entry id="RUN_REFDIR" value="cesm2_init">
<entry id="RUN_REFCASE" value="b.e21.BHIST.f09_g17.CMIP6-historical.010_v2">
<entry id="RUN_REFDATE" value="2015-01-01">
<entry id="GET_REFCASE" value="TRUE">
<entry id="RUN_STARTDATE" value="2015-01-01">

Thanks

Sorry, CESM requires the reference case to be the same resolution as your run. If a 2 degree reference case is not available, I suspect the f19_g17 resolution is not scientifically vetted and your best bet would be to run with a 1 degree atmosphere despite the additional cost.

Three fully coupled "historical" runs were done at f19_g17, "b.e21.BHIST.f19_g17.CMIP6-historical-2deg.[001,002,003]"

Do you want a restart set from one? The following years are available:

1860 1870 1880 1890 1900 1910 1920 1930 1940 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000 2005 2010 2015

Thanks for chiming in, @strandwg! Nice to know we have production runs on the 2-degree grid. From the initial post, I think @qige is going to want the 2015 restarts.
