N_SALT, salinity transport

In the CESM1 (the ocean component is POP2) output, the N_SALT is:

N_SALT(lat_aux_grid|105,transport_comp|5,transport_reg|2,time|12)

Will some body tell me how to calculate N_SALT? And how can I find the original code?
