NH4 balance in CESM1.2.2 with trop mozart

Dear All,I'm running the CAM4 with TROP_MOZART mechanism under CESM1.2.2. In the output, there are species like NH3, NH4, HNO3, NO3, SO2, NH4NO3 and SO4. Does the NH4 output includes the NH4 in the NH4NO3? Is there any belonging relationship among HNO3, NH4NO3 and NO3? Is there any equilibrium equation that can balance the mole concentration of NH4, NO3 and SO4 in the atmosphere? Thank you very much and any suggestion will be helpful. Jian

Hi Jian, the ammonium nitrate distribution is determined from NH3 emissions and the parameterization of gas/aerosol partitioning by Metzger et al. (2002), which is a set of approximations to the equilibrium constant calculation (Seinfeld, 1986) based on the level of sulfate present.Note that the NH3, NO3, HNO3, SO2 are gas phase compounds; NH4, NH4NO3, SO4 are aerosols.NH4NO3 is a subset of NH4. You can find the code in:/models/atm/cam/src/chemistry/mozart/mo_aerosols.F90

Hi, tilmes Thanks for your sharing. I have one more question. The CAM-CHEM only outputs the wet deposition of NH4, NH4NO3 and SO4, which are all aerosols phase. Why the model doesn't output the wet deposition like HNO3 and NO3? Thank you. Jian
