Number of PEs for CSIM?

The CCSM User's Guide notes on component parallelization
http://www.ccsm.ucar.edu/models/ccsm3.0/ccsm/doc/UsersGuide/UsersGuide/node10.html
says
"csim: 2d decomp, must divide the grid evenly, does not run on 1 pe successfully"

I have run CCSM with csim on a single PE without problems (no runtime errors). Does it mean that the outputs are incorrect?

Can someone tell me under what conditions csim could fail/succeed on 1 PE? Like for example, for CAM the validity of the number of PEs depends on the DYCORE.

Thank you.
