Query about CMIP6 CESM2 model under ssp585

Good day! I have a query about the ssp585 versions of the recent CESM2 model under the CMIP6 project. Currently, only these variants are available on the ESGF portal: r10i1p1f1, r11i1p1f1, and r4i1p1f1. Will the r1i1p1f1 variant be made available in the future? Thank you!

Hi Dianne. The original SSP runs from our CMIP submission were retracted due to a significant bug in the forcing data. The run were reintegrated with the correct forcing and resubmitted with slightly modified case names (001->101) and variant labels. The conversion is below:

Retracted:
CESM2_ssp585_r1i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.001
CESM2_ssp585_r2i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.002
CESM2_ssp585_r3i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.003

Reruns:
CESM2_ssp585_r10i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.101
CESM2_ssp585_r11i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.102
CESM2_ssp585_r4i1p1f1 : b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.103

The original r1i1p1f1 variant will not be available since the retraction, and the r10i1p1f1 run should replace it.

Thanks!

Hello, how can I get the reruns file? Thanks in advance!

All of the CESM2 SSP3.70 runs are on ESGF.
Hi, when I download the CESM2 files, I found the historical files have r1i1p1f1 and r10i1p1f1, but the SSP files only have r10i1p1f1. For the consistency of the forcing, I should download the r1i1p1f1 historical files or the r10i1p1f1 historical files? Thanks!

You should match the numbers after the "r", so r10 from the SSPs matches the r10 from the historicals and so on.

Thanks for your reply. I understand it!
Hi strandwg, I am wondering if we should keep the consistency between CMIP/SMIP and LS3MIP phases of simulations. The former (CMIP/SMIP) has updated files named as 'r10i1p1f1', however the latter (LS3MIP) only has the older names. Can we put them together to analyze?

Yes - you can compare the LS3MIP data to the CMIP data even though the realization numbers don't match.
