Question about Soil Moisture Initialization

Hi,

I need to perturb the soil moisture to create an ensemble for seasonal forecast but I am not sure which variable realistically represent soil moisture in CLM initial condition. In the initial condition of CLM model there are only two variables such as H2OSOI_LIQ and H2OSOI_ICE which, I consider, represents soil moisture anomalies. Am I right?

I think so, but I believe that these variables contain soil moisture and not anomalies.
