Hello experts!
I have a question regarding best practice for CLM5 spin-up when changing atmospheric forcing datasets.

My analysis focuses primarily on carbon fluxes. I have successfully completed a full spin-up using GSWP3 atmospheric data. Following the model spin-up, I conducted a transient simulation. Now, I would like to conduct a similar transient simulation while maintaining the same surface file and compset, but using a different atmospheric forcing source, such as CRU.
Is it necessary to conduct a new complete spin-up using the updated atmospheric data? Or is it acceptable to initialize the CRU transient simulation from the previous equilibrium state achieved with GSWP3 data?

Thanks

Generally, if the forcing datasets are signficantly different from one another, then separate spinups would likely be recommended.
